BOAT INFORMATION

Designed as a racer/cruiser, the First 405 is based on IOR shapes common in the mid 80's. Nowadays we recognize this type of sloop as a very competent cruising boat, capable of taking its owners anywhere in the world. The hull is stable and can make good daily milage while the interior remains extremely functional in a seaway, not to mention comfortable at anchor.

This owner has done a great job at installing systems for comfort and safety which show great ingenuity and considerable thought. It would take very little to ready Walk the Line for an ocean or coastal passage.

The T shaped cockpit is easy to move around in and the huge hardtop dodger leaves plenty of area to keep dry from the elements. With her huge solar array and RO water maker you can live unattached from shore for long periods of time. Her sails are in great shape as is her engine and bottom.

Upon entering the companionway the galley is to port and Nav station to starboard. The auxiliary diesel is contained in a box under the deep double sink on centerline at the base of the companionway ladder.

The main cabin has a folding table on centerline with a huge queen size capable U shaped settee to port and slender long settee to starboard.

Forward of the main bulkhead you will find a standing/seating area with a v-berth forward and compact head/shower to port.

Aft of the companionway bulkhead there is a large head/shower, again to port, with access from the galley and aft cabin. One of the great aspects of this boat's design is that the engine is somewhat removed from the aft cabin so it's quieter when motoring than most sloops in this size range. The aft head also has the water maker controls.

The owner has also set up the port lazzarette as a systems maintenance space with access to the water maker and other important systems.Included is a Plastimo liferaft in a soft valise. On the delivery to our office, Walk the Line averaged over 7 knots on the passage without being pressed; in fact the sail was quite easy and stress free. If you are looking for a 40 foot sloop for a run to Mexico or beyond this boat ticks many boxes.
