BOAT INFORMATION

The Friendship 40 is a work of art designed by Ted Fontaine, and crafted at the Austral yard in Whangarei, New Zealand. The design is targeted to the upscale sailor who no longer has the need for crew and multiple staterooms, but desires to continue sailing on a beautiful design which is easily handled by one or two people. The overall length and beam allows for extremely comfortable overnighting, and the very generous uncluttered cockpit offers an exhilarating opportunity for six or more day sailors to enjoy the exceptional performance and versatility of a shoal draft center boarder, or the 9 ft. board down draft sailing to weather.

Absolute unrivaled quality is synonymous with the Friendship Yacht Company. Incorporating many elements from his large custom yachts, designer Ted Fontaine has created the FRIENDSHIP 40, a luxury daysailer whose concept has been imitated, but by no means equaled. The expert craftsmanship and careful attention to detail display the superyacht quality to which each Friendship 40 has been built. Time honored methods of handcraftsmanship and a fine eye for classic boat building are apparent at first glance of this boat. She is truly stunning.

Not until you step aboard can you realize what a fantastic sailing vessel has been created. A large, powerful rig for performance coupled with the ease of a single-handed set-up, the Friendship 40 sails with a near effortless hand at the helm. An in-boom furling main with hydraulic sheet buttons at the helmsman’s feet and a roller furling genoa with electric winches at either side of the wheel make it possible to sit back and soak in the pure and simple joys of sailing.

SCRAM is in perfect condition with very low engine hours. and one of the most luxuriously outfitted Friendship 40's built. She has every option available, including generator with hydraulically lifting cockpit sole for access, radar overlay on the GPS plotter, electric jib furler, captured electric main sheet winch and custom Sunbrella boat covers. She has been kept in meticulous condition and is an exquisite example of fine boat building.

SCRAM is drop dead gorgeous and available in San Francisco now. Please enjoy the picture portfolio and full specifications that accompany this very special listing. SCRAM IS THE ONLY FRIENDSHIP 40 CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON THE USA BROKERAGE MARKET.

DECK AND HULL

Hull
The Corecell high-density foam cored hull, and topsides are heat bonded and hand laid, incorporating knitted tri-axial, biaxial, and uni-directional E glass to ensure an incredible strength to weight ratio, as well as superior sound and thermal insulation. The deck is also Corecell PVC foam cored and laminated with 3 layers of E-glass, and a final layer of E-glass cloth then finished in gel coat.

  • Flag blue topsides with gold cove stripes

Helm
The cockpit/helm area is a real hallmark of the Friendship 40 design. Not only is it large, and ergonomically comfortable, but all of the sailing controls are either electrically, or hydraulically actuated by guarded foot switches, or easily reached touch buttons close to the 48" stainless steel destroyer.

Mainsheet lines cluttering the cockpit or deck are eliminated by the use of an under deck captured winch, which is activated by two guarded foot switches. The hydraulic Navtec boom vang and backstay are tensioned from a panel located to port of the helm. The 2-speed Lewmar self-tailing genoa winches are also electrically activated by recessed Antal touch buttons.

THIS IS A SAIL HANDLING DESIGN THAT LENDS ITSELF TO A POWER ASSISTED SINGLE HANDED OPERATION SYSTEM. UNDER POWER, THE 8 HP BOW THRUSTER MAKES TIGHT QUARTER MANEUVERING A BREEZE.

The cockpit sole is teak covered and angled for comfort while heeling under sail. The centerboard controls are also power assisted and easily reached from the helm.

Deck and Hardware
The sophistication of the teak deck layout offers uncluttered access fore, and aft yet allows for access, storage, and operation of all systems. The flush mounted anchor locker allows for remote retrieval of the ground tackle. Additional storage is in a separate flush mounted starboard side foredeck locker. The 8 stainless steel deck cleats are recessed when not in use. The massive teak toe rail is integrally mounted into the deck mold and the stainless steel line fairleads are mounted into the toe rail rather than bolted on to the toe rail.

Forward of the helm is a huge solid varnished teak drop-leaf cockpit table which houses the GPS plotter, autopilot control, and a cold drink box.
All vessel control systems are activated from the cockpit once underway. Lines are led aft through sheet stoppers to the electric self-tailing winches, which then store the line into built-in storage bins. Under the cockpit cushions are very large, watertight hatches that allow access to the engine room, pump room, as well as additional storage.
