OVERVIEW

This beautiful Hans Christian 48T aft cockpit is the flagship of Hans Christian's "Traditional" series of world cruising yachts. GARDNER McKAY was designed by Scott Sprague under the guidance of the owner of Hans Christian to be a fast, blue water cruising yacht. She was constructed specifically to be the "Ultimate Blue Water Cruiser". Her cutaway forefoot full keel with detached rudder, canoe stern, and heavy rigging make her capable and strong on the open seas. She has massive amounts of storage, which is great for anyone wanting to cruise for prolonged periods of time. She is perfect for the World Traveler!

She is located conveniently in San Francisco. GARDNER McKAY was built in the Shin Fau yard in Taiwan, which is known for their legendary craftsmanship and is said to produce the finest and most well-constructed Hans Christians ever made.

She was originally built for a minority owner of Hans Christian and has been meticulously maintained and exceptionally fitted with only the highest standards of workmanship and materials. To my knowledge, there were only two HC48 aft cockpits built. Unlike the HC48T center cockpits, the aft cockpit has a much more open and inviting interior. The current owner has continually upgraded the boat and simplified the maintenance.

GARDNER McKAY is not your ordinary Hans Christian. The teak decks have been removed to reduce maintenance. A new, stronger bow sprit has been fitted. The vessel has new canvas and a new propane stove and propane system. Both, the interior and exterior are in great condition.

Scott Sprague hit the sweet spot with this design. The HC48 is not a slug, but a very good performer, typically sailing in the 8 knot range on long passages and hitting 9 and 10 knots on occasion. Anyone who loves sailing will not be disappointed with the 48T.

There is more to GARDNER McKAY beyond just her beauty. Her sturdy construction, classic design and unprecedented safety make her a great choice for anyone thinking about doing some serious cruising! She is ready to sail the open seas and ready to take off for an around-the-world tour immediately! She is waiting for you to pack your bags and make all your cruising dreams come true.
A MUST SEE for those who aspire to see the World!
